Not only do they allow rapists to lurk in their parking garage, if one points a gun at your head, threatens your small children, and rapes you, they'll claim it's your fault.

Yeah, never gonna feel safe in one of those places again. Plus, totally disgusted by their conduct.

i definitely agree that the counterclaim is despicable, but the story says something about "the firm managing the hotel" that makes it less clear to me whether it's marriott corporate or some licensee/franchisee that's involved in the suit.

True... but either way, they need to own up to the fact that a lapse on their part put a woman and her children at enormous risk. Hopefully this'll end up costing them a lot more than a quiet out-of-court settlement would have.

If they'd been even halfway sensible, they'd have settled this one quietly out of court. As it is, I'm imagining a whole lot of female business travellers (not to mention leisure travellers) pulling the plug on Marriott reservations in the future.

Hopefully! Hence getting the word out. After reading that, any plans of staying at one of their hotels vanished. I'd rather stay at a cheap, crappy Knights Inn (and that's saying a lot, because the last time I stayed there, there were cockroaches in the room. Polite ones, but still, cockroaches. Better cockroaches than rapists, through).

I wonder if they would've claimed the same thing if the woman and her kids had been murdered as well. Could you picture that story in the news?

I thought blaming the victim went out of style back in the 1980s? So unimpressed with the Marriott. I hope they end up paying through the nose.
