I just lost a shitton of faith in IJ.

I get it, inactive journals taking up space blah blah blah blah blah. Whatever.

Journals with actual content in them should not be deleted except by the creators of the content. Even if they did stop posting fifteen months ago. End of freakin' story.

I... was planning on renewing some of my paid accounts that had just expired. Until this.

The problem is that, when they ask you, they've already deleted it. So the default is that it's gone, and if it's a community that other people care about, that means that there's nothing they can do in the absence of the original maintainer. If people don't care about their content being purged, that's fine, but this way of going about it is fucking over people who do care. Especially because several communities (

good_rpers_rock for example, which fortunately has been restored upon a complaint being filed) were deleted with no actual notification given to their maintainers.

I did get a notification about GRPR, but there was NO way to access it and undelete it.

As far as paying for accounts, I've always had to assume it's pissing money away and yes, it really is. If you're looking for ROI for them, it really isn't going to happen.

Oooh, that's good to know... at least about you getting notified. I've heard of other people who didn't, although some of that might be a matter of them no longer having the email address that they had when they set up the community... or not being the original owner, and the email address was never changed when ownership changed.

But the boom-it's-gone thing was bad. Fortunately, this morning Squeaky replied to me that all communities are going to be restored.

Hmmm... I wasn't aware of that. In that case, it does suck. I guess I didn't read the email close enough--my mistake. So if someone reactivates the account, are you saying the content is gone?

If the account gets reactivated, then everything's restored... and fortunately, this morning Squeaky replied to me on the announcement post and apparently they will be restoring all of the communities/asylums.

That's good news! Though I did figure out how to get back in and reactivate mine--just to spite them... *whistles* It's an asylum calanor and I set up for our joint fics but due to RL and health issues on both our parts, it got put on hold. I get the impression that Squeaky is 'for' us rather than against so hopefully IJ will continue to be a far better choice than LJ.

Maybe for some people, but literally the first I heard of it was when I got notifications that the accounts had been deleted, and I had 14 days to undelete them if I wanted to keep them. If any emails went out before then, I certainly didn't get any of them. And when I went to check on the accounts mentioned, they were already in "deleted" status.
